La Yesa

La Yesa is a small town (300 habitants) located in the region of the county of Los Serranos. In this place, we’ll find all kinds of services, as well as various options for restoration or taste the local homemade beer.

The town has an extensive history and monumental heritage. La Yesa manifest a diversify numbers of Iberian remains, as well as many ruins of medieval buildings. The principal church, Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, was completed in 1622 in the Renaissance style with a square tower. During the Carlist War the church was burned down in 1840, but was subsequently reconstructed in 1852. We recommend you to visit in the church, in which there are the picture of Resurrected Christ, by Rudolf Eichstaedt and an icon of the Virgen del Carmen (century XIV). Besides, the conquest of La Yesa by Castilla is related in Cantar del mio Cid, the oldest preserved Castilian epic poem. Based on a true story, it tells of the Castilian hero Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, El Cid, and takes place during the Reconquista (reconquest of Iberian Peninsula from the Moors by Christian kingdoms).

La Yesa, like the rest of Los Serranos, enjoys with a lot of amazing and beautiful landscapes. For example, El Carrascal is an incredible forest of holm oak, some of them are centenary monumental trees.
